The Folkestone Ladies' Erotic Fiction Club
TV series
Created by Sharon Burrell
A sexy dramedy about the things we lose but are not allowed to grieve
A love letter to women in midlife, The Folkestone Ladies' Erotic Fiction Club is a recurring TV series set in the fragile natural beauty of Folkestone, an English coastal town within touching distance of France. The series explores the things we lose in midlife but are not allowed to grieve, ultimately celebrating the healing powers of female friendship and Mother Nature, as we enter an era of relentless disruption.
Echoing successful US shows such as Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives, the series brings together a female friendship group to face adversity with humour and high drama. And just as in UK series such as Fleabag and Sex Education, we find ourselves bewitched by female protagonists breaking societal norms and voicing taboo subjects.
Achingly beautiful, funny and heart-wrenching, stimulating to the eyes, ears (and other, more intimate, areas), the series centres the female experience of desire and desirability, becoming an irresistible adult pleasure to watch at bedtime.
A proof of concept is being filmed in June 2025, directed by Emmy award winner Emelie Mahdavian. Series bible available on request.

Glitched
TV series
Created by Sharon Burrell and Darren Lee Murphy
The visionary founder of an AI empire is in a race against a ruthless cartel of billionaires to save humanity, but her greatest obstacle lies closer to home: her husband.
Glitched is a sexy science fiction thriller about a woman trying to save our beautiful but misogynistic world with her almost-human bots. As the jeopardy escalates and human behaviour becomes more grotesque, elements of dark comedy make it bearable to watch.
Spotlighting the big business and political corruption that fan the flames of climate disruption, this recurring TV series is seen through the eyes of passionate Connie and her infatuated husband Dante, as their fiery, kinky, relationship spirals out of control.
Inspired by high-end, end-of-the-world series (think Fallout) and slick shows set against a corporate backdrop (think Industry), this series fast forwards to a world stubbornly resilient in the face of environmental collapse thanks to Connie’s ingenuity and bravery. And just as in stories which bring together dynamic wife and husband pairings, (think Mr & Mrs Smith), we find ourselves bewitched by compelling protagonists fighting for control as patriarchy strikes back.
Aspirational and macabre, in turn thrilling and funny, with its relentless pace and a shock in every episode, the series will become a gloriously addictive adult pleasure.
A proof of concept is currently in post-production. Series outline available upon request.

Friction
TV series
Created by Sharon Burrell and Cat Muir
A sexy, fast-paced drama driven by one woman smashing the fossil fuel stranglehold on our lives
Friction is a present day, fast-paced drama which delivers whip-smart, sexy and urgent eco-action designed to stimulate and entertain.
Inspired by shows like Industry and State of Play, but this time centring women in midlife, Friction is set at the crossroads where the vibrant, high-voltage worlds of global finance, politics and media clash with the greige world of “Mission Control”, the UK government’s hub responsible for the transition to green energy.
Echoing successful US shows such as How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal, the series is led by a black female protagonist at the top of her game, entirely capable and comfortable with speaking truth to power, and taking no prisoners as she fights to expose the insidious presence of the fossil fuel industry, whatever the personal cost. And just as in UK series such as Black Doves, Killing Eve and Vigil, her adventures bring her into contact with a high-octane set of women not afraid to break societal norms to get what they want.

Freya (Working title)
TV series
Original story by Sharon Burrell
Pilot episode written by Sharon Burrell
An extermination programme targeting the over 55s forces two former eco-terrorists to choose between their relationship, or their love for the environment.
FREYA is a story about climate change but isn’t another doom and gloom narrative. While it is an eco-story, it is equally an action thriller with a strong, mature, female protagonist doing the unexpected in extraordinary circumstances. It shows the audience a world where we have come out the other side, that through our actions we have started to reverse the worst effects. Of course, humans will still be humans and therefore further disruption can be anticipated for the central characters.
Unresolved intergenerational conflict has spawned a desire for an extermination programme which weighs up the value of one human life against another based on their culpability for crimes committed against the environment in the past. Ultimately, the story asks the audience whether we want eco-activists to go as far as starting a war to save the planet, or whether we will step up and play our part, creating sustainable change by design, rather than through violence.
Pilot episode and episode guide available to potential producers, directors and agents. Industry feedback so far has been very positive, reaching the final 9% of entries in the 2024 BBC Writers' Open Call.
